Don’t let your legacy let your family down!

Maybe you did some thinking in the holidays, set some new goals for yourself and February 2022 will be a time for new beginnings and possibly even starting new business ventures. This is an exciting time, but good advice on the preparation and the registration of a new business is important and can prevent a lot of disappointment down the line. Please talk to me if you need this kind of help and advice, especially if you see this as building a legacy for your family’s future.

On that point, there seems to be little purpose in working all your life to build a legacy for your loved ones if that legacy is not legally protected when you pass away. I urge you to let us help you to plan an estate that will make the wrapping up of your affairs as painless, hassle-free and expedient as possible. The setting up of a family trust, for example, could make all the difference, so I can advise you on that too.

Something you can trust in

One day, when you are no longer around, the surviving members of your family may be very grateful that you set up a family trust, giving them total asset protection. Property in a trust doesn’t fall into your estate and therefore it is not subject to estate duty. Trusts also do away with estate executor fees. Along with the planning of the estate, one needs to appoint an Executor.

The Executor, usually named within the Estate plan, is the person in charge of compiling assets and managing the estate through the Master of the High Court. They are in effect your personal representative when you are no longer around and it is vital that you appoint one whom you trust and preferably who has assisted you to prepare and register the estate plan. As trusted Notaries, we will be happy to help and can ensure that your wishes are carried out to the letter.
