The risks we face – from travel to e-commerce

We started last month advising on various aspects of Intellectual Property Law. Intellectual Property Law (IPL) covers many areas and it is important that you consult with an attorney well versed in such matters to ascertain exactly which area of IPL you ned to be dealing with.

Copyright law

We are all facing risk pretty much every day of our lives. Sometimes in our personal capacities, like when we travel, or in our businesses, like when we are victims of cyber-crime or dubious e-commerce practices.

Glenn Rooseboom Inc. is a multi-faceted law firm dealing in numerous aspects of the law and risk is something that we try to protect our clients against in as many ways as we can. We also strive to protect our clients in whatever area of the law that they may feel compromised, unsure of where they stand, or in particular if they feel their rights are being abused.

In this article, we take a look at 2 typical examples of the types of risk we face and advise on how we can mitigate that risk, or at least be prepared to face its consequences, these are travel and e-commerce.

Is your legacy protected when you travel?

It is an unfortunate reality that travel and accidents seem to be inextricably linked and as a huge part of our population is currently travelling to vacation resorts we should be aware of what should happen if we are unfortunate enough to be the victims of a fatal accident.

Many of our clients are business travellers too, consistently travelling internationally and we urge them to consider if their Estate is adequate and updated, especially in terms of their Will!

What is the risk of not having a will, or it not having been updated? Well, simply put, much of your wealth can be frozen and your Estate Executor’s hands tied in terms of distributing what is rightfully your family’s inheritance to them. Imagine their additional pain and anxiety if this happens! We strongly advise that you talk to us to ensure this will not be the case before you embark on your next vacation or business trip!

E-commerce risk

Many of the clients that we serve, particularly since COVID, have started businesses dealing in e-commerce, and many other clients have unfortunately been victims of e-commerce – or online shopping. Some consumers are nervous about ordering online products, but in most cases that’s only because they don’t understand their legal rights.

Online consumers are actually better protected nowadays than those shopping over the counter because of the numerous stringent laws that have been put in place to protect the consumer. If you ever feel, therefore, that your right as a consumer has been infringed then consult with an expert Attorney practising e-commerce law right away!

Our intention for this month and in August is to look into both sides of the risks regarding e-commerce. Those faced by the consumer and also the e-commerce enterprise owner. We’ll try to cover what every consumer needs to know about e-commerce and the legal considerations that need to be made when dealing with e-commerce. So watch this space!

Consult the experts

In the meantime, if you want to ensure that your loved ones will not be left in distress or if you are facing any issues regarding e-commerce please don’t hesitate to contact us – we are always there to assist you with the risks you face – from travel to e-commerce.
